name: loki canon: marvel comics (616) canon point: flexible, currently defaulting to their last appearance in immortal thor, but can go back as far as first lady loki appearance and siege if you want info: norse god(dess) of stories. biological child of the frost giants laufey and farbauti, adopted child of the aesir odin and the vanir freyja. sibling and skald of thor, god of thunder and one of earth's mightiest heroes. while no longer strictly a villain, loki is still a trickster and rather mischievous. a frequent fourth-wall breaker and the type of person to do something just because it's funny. expect lots of waxing philosophical about what it means to be a fictional character stuck in a story, but also midgardian memes. age: old as fuck, visually can range from late 20s to early 40s depending on the version gender: fluid, loki identifies as male and female, god and goddess, brother and sister, son and daughter. as of the immortal thor run, loki uses they/them pronouns and is referred to as thor's sibling and odin's child. prior to this, loki uses he/him when in a male form and she/her when in a female form. feel free to default to they/them or follow whatever i'm using in the thread. loki is loki. species: frost giant, appears asgardian or human to most appearance: default form / teller of tales voice: smooth, playful, androgynous, british but like in a fantasy shakespearean way. when they speak, their dialogue has a different ~font~ than ordinary people because they are ~asgardian~ height: 6'4 build: lanky but surprisingly muscular, curvier when they want to be hair: black, shaggy short wolf cut, occasionally shorter or longer eyes: bright green features: usually wearing green, horns, doesn't wear shoes, missing a tooth, black fingernails |

hugging: yes kissing: yes flirting: yes romance: unlikely to happen seriously because loki is loki and is bad at this, but i am here for trainwrecks sex: yes, though i don't write a lot of smut so fade to black is more likely fighting: yes injury: yes death: yes mind-reading: yes, but loki has a weird fourth-wall breaking mind so let's discuss first manipulation: yes |

backtagging: yes threadjacking: yes fourth-walling: yes, loki knows they're in a comic book and is well aware they might be recognized from that or mythology. they'll probably have fun discussing it! format: any, default to brackets shipping preferences: 18+ any and all, loki is pansexual and doesn't care about gender or species. loki will likely match their age to their partner. they dated a chicken. and a horse. and a cat. not interested in shipping with their family members, but shipping with other lokis or comics hela/leah is a-okay. with thor, i go off of the comics which is that they're these crazy cosmic foils who are obsessed with each other but it's not romantic/sexual but some weird third thing that's also different from their relationships with the rest of odin's kids. they're just weird. off-limits: underage, rape, noncon, not interested in playing out targeted transphobia/homophobia, but up for characters discussing their experiences with it warnings: loki's main storylines deal with child death, child abuse, and metaphorical suicide. totally understand if these are no-gos for anyone! in less serious stuff, they also enjoy hinting at the fourth wall and the idea of narratives, but will never outright say "hey you're not real" unless we're obviously going for that sort of thread. also they were like. a villain and killed a lot of people. and still do evil things occasionally. you know. |
loki plot summary
loki wanted change. he was reborn as a child, the innocent and lovable kid loki who went on many adventures with his magpie ikol, the remnants of the old loki. kid loki was good, and he saved the world numerous times. he earned asgard's trust with hard work, until...
he died too. for the old loki did not want change for a new version of himself, he wanted this change to be his and his alone. ikol killed kid loki, taking the youth's place for his own schemes.
this kid loki sought greater power, bringing together the young avengers in order to get it. but he was haunted by guilt, afraid that in killing his younger self he had sealed his fate forever. as kids often do, he grew up on this journey, due to billy kaplan using his magic to grant loki an older and stronger form.
now a young adult, and still believed to be his other self, loki became the agent of asgard, righting wrongs for the sake of the all-mother. this went well until it went bad. a loki from the far future appeared, claiming loki would always be evil. the all-mother supported this, as it meant thor and asgard would be safe. the story would continue as it always had. forever.
loki would not change.
rather than accept this fate, loki burned alive. in the space between stories, between life and death, she saw a way that she could change. no more god of evil, no more god of lies. but lies are just stories, when you think about it. and loki is the child of odin, the king of all stories.
reborn in another new form, loki was now the god and goddess of stories, the moon queen, the magic theater. she escaped the collapse of the seventh cosmos and then...
played the villain once more. again and again, loki's changes were ignored by the narrative in favor of what had once been. he was the well-intentioned antihero at times, but it seemed as if he had completely forgotten about his new domain.
because- he had! when the eighth cosmos were formed, loki split into two. one loki remained in the main story, fighting as an adversary to the mighty thor and ending up as king of jotunheim. another loki joined the defenders beyond and contemplated escaping the story entirely. when she chose to stay instead, the two merged.
rather, the eighth cosmos loki remembered all that he had been through and that he had hidden his memories away in order to trick himself. he was whole once more, and now knew all that it had taken him to get there.
we're nearly caught up! loki realized being king of jotunheim kinda sucked and quit. thor, now the all-father and king of asgard, needed a skald to tell his stories and loki gladly took on this role. they reformed the bifrost and when thor needed protection during the all-sleep, they saw to him.
on one condition. in order for loki to help thor, they must not only be his ally but his enemy as well. the teller of tales can seem cruel, but their trials have a purpose. thor, tired of the evil loki committed in the name of good, exiled the skald from the golden realm. what will happen next? would you know more?
me too man loki appears in the next issue but it's not soon enough
TL;DR
loki was an evil villain, literally one of the most evil people ever
reincarnated as a child but that was just a scheme for more power
SO MUCH GUILT OVER KILLING CHILD SELF
everyone in the world was like sorry you'll never change. you are evil forever :)
loki said no and became god of stories
for like 6 years writers ignored this and it caused a huge plot hole until defenders beyond explained it with timey wimey stuff
immortal thor is really good, please read it
